Meet Avery: Our Summer 2022 Intern!

Tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Avery! I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and moved up to Seattle in 2019 as an incoming freshman at the University of Washington. This fall, I will be entering my senior year, and I am both excited and terrified for what that will bring. I have loved being at UW, pursuing my B.A in Communication, with two minors in Spanish and Education. In my free time away from school, you will find me reading, shopping, working out, or trying a new restaurant in one of Seattle’s many vibrant neighborhoods.

There are a lot of PR agencies out there, why did you pick Revolution?

From the start, I could tell that Revolution aligned perfectly with values that I hold very highly. Being sustainable, female-led, and committed to supporting their team were the first things I loved about this agency. Entering the career world can be scary for young adults, and I immediately felt that Revolution would be a safe space for me to continue my introduction into the Public Relations field.

What attracted you to pursue PR as a career?

I decided to pursue PR as a career because I felt like it encapsulated all of my favorite areas of study. Communication, writing, psychology, marketing all lend themselves seamlessly in the Public Relations field. Thus far in my PR tenure, I have found that in following this career, I will be able to access my creative side and lean on skills like writing and critical thinking.

We’re an agency of self-proclaimed wellness junkies! What is your favorite trend in the wellness space right now?

During the early stages of quarantine, I had the opportunity (and time) to fall in love again with the most simple wellness practices. Like many people, I never missed the chance to go on a walk just for the sake of getting out of the house. This habit followed me when I returned to Seattle, and now it is a staple in my daily routine. If nothing else, I value the time to go outside and focus on nature and whoever I am with.

Is there a workout that you’re loving right now?

I tried my first ever SoulCycle class about a month ago and absolutely fell in love. It was a Miley Cyrus themed ride, and I have never had that much fun working out. I love workouts that make me laugh and almost forget that I am exercising in the first place. I can’t wait to keep going to SoulCycle in the months to come!

What media outlet (publication, podcast, blog, etc.) are you loving right now and why?

One of my favorite newspapers that I receive electronically is The Daily, the University of Washington’s school publication. I love reading about everything that is going on on campus, as well as the greater Seattle area. The students who write, photograph, or video for The Daily put so much work in throughout the year, and I love to support them by reading it as often as I can! They do fun features on students and events, but also more serious reporting on issues that the University or our community are facing.

If you had to choose one thing that you are most passionate about, what would it be and why?

I am very passionate about mental health and taking necessary steps to secure your own wellness. Growing up in this generation, I have seen how the conversation around mental health has shifted and developed as time has gone on. There will always be more work to do in this area, and having leaders my age start those conversations has been fascinating to watch. My favorite ways to take care of my mental health are spending time with my family, my dogs, and catching up on sleep when needed!
