3 Super Bowl 50 Ads I’ll Remember

Since our beloved Hawks didn’t make it to this year’s big game, my only skin in the game was to check out the famed advertisements – with one caveat, I had to do so with the added distraction of a 3-year old and 6-year old running around. Super Bowl_1 According to USA Today, marketers spent up to $5 million dollars for 30-seconds of air time.  Gulp. That’s a lot of tubes of Colgate toothpaste.  But I’ll remember the Colgate ad that encouraged viewers to turn off the faucet while brushing.  Colgate was not selling toothpaste, it was selling its brand to environmentally-conscious millennials and definitely to me - living in a Passive House. Bam! I can only imagine how many people that propelled into action.  Not us Seattleites though… [caption id="attachment_3246" align="aligncenter" width="400"]Photo: techinsider.com Photo: techinsider.com[/caption] The last ad I continue to think about is hard for me because I once owned Jeep and it was a repair nightmare.  Their “We don’t make Jeep. You do.” celebrated the brand’s rich heritage with images of the car’s evolution, people, animals and places, and a slogan that acknowledged its customers role in its success.  A thank you wrapped up with nostalgia, with an understanding of the importance of your brand’s tribe won its place on my short list, and even had me reflecting on my own Jeep memories despite the wallet damage.
